ART HAS ALWAYS BEEN A BIG PART OF MY LIFE

Hello and Welcome again to my website. My name is Marilyn McNeil. I was born in Mt.Clemens, Michigan USA.
I have moved to neighboring towns through my life but have always been a Michigander. I now reside in Romeo Michigan and have found a place to settle down now for the last 24 years. My first critique I can remember
was from my kindergarten teacher. She had commented to my parents on "what a wonderful four legged bird
I had drawn." That was the first drawing I remember and have loved drawing ever since. I attended South Macomb Community College working towards a degree in Auto Body Design and Graphic & Commercial Arts. In that time
I was soon hired as a Technical Illustrator/Graphic Artist for the automotive industry and worked on the board
using plastic lead and then to India ink on mylar. Then the age of the computer came along and I adapted my
skills as needed. My career in Graphic Arts lasted 22 years. In that time I married a wonderful man John and
raised two children Heidi and Aaron. I've done commission work through my life besides wall art such as Murals
personalized painted stools and toy boxes (handmade by my husband) and painted furniture for consignment.
I found it hard to squeeze in as much time as I would have liked having a full time job and both of us working on
a house we purchased that was built in 1865. We restored what we could and rebuilt what we had to so that
kept me plenty busy. I am now pursuing my dream as a full time portrait artist with the children older and the
improvements on the house slowing down. Yes it's still not done with one more room to go and I've been
saying that now for the last couple years. When you have the money you don't have the time and when you have
the time you don't have the money. A lot of you probably know what I'm talking about even in different situations.
